Federal Steam Ship Companys refrigerated passenger steamer s.s. ``Devon`` (II) Built by Ateeliers et Chantiers de France, Dunkirk in 1915. Of 9,661 G.R.T. 144.26 Meters L.O.A. 11,688 m3 refrigerated space and 4,593 m3 general cargo space. Twin screw powered by triple expansion, 2 x 3 cylinder, 5,000 IHP. 5 single ended boilers, 20 furnaces, giving a service speed of 12 knots. She had capacity for 300 passengers, and was adapted for the Manchester Ship Canal. 1915 - 1919 she was employed as a troop ship. 1920 Entered service with the passenger accommodation removed but carried 20 cadets. 1926 Was one of the vessels that stood by NZSCo´s ``Paparoa`` on fire off St. Helena. 1934 Transferred to British India S.N. Co.; and kept the same name. BI used her as a cadet trianing ship for 38 cadets. http://PartTimeJob.online/?user=395910

1941 August 19th, She was intercepted in the South Pacific by the German Armed Merchant Cruiser ``Komet`` on her second cruise masquerading as the neutral Japanese ``Royoku Maru`` After the crew were taken off ``Devon`` she was sunk by bombs in the engine room and stokehold. The crew were later transferred to the captured Dutch freighter ``Kota Nopan`` (Rotterdam Lloyd) and interned in Germany.
