Built by John Brown & Co. Clydebank in 1942. Of 12,090 Gross Registered tons, 168.04 meters lenght overall. Twin propellers powered by 2 x 3 single reduction geared steam turbines, 2 water tube boilers giving a service speed of 16 knots. 16148.7 cubic meters of cargo space of which 11,000 cubic meters was refrigerated.

1942 December 13th she was torpedoed north of the Azores in gale conditions when inward bound on her second voyage. With a gaping hole in Nos 4 and 5 holds Hororata made for Flores which she reached in a waterlogged condition the next day. That evening because of a gale warning the ship was abandoned for the night and at daybreak re-boarded to begin the work of making her seaworthy.

1942 December 14th In a heightening gale the Hororata dragged both anchors and was blown 20 miles out to sea. To gain better repair assistance she limped into Fayal where she arrived on December 18th. It was at Fayal was fitted with a wood and concrete patch. This took several weeks and Hororata sailed from Fayal to Liverpool escorted by HMS Burwell on March 17th 1943 She arrived at Liverpool on March 23rd and the cargo which had been kept refrigerated was unloaded. After discharge of her cargo she went to Cammell Laird shipyard for repairs, and returned to service in September 1943

1944 Rescued the crew os an R.A.A.F. Anson which had crashed into the Tasman Sea.

1966 During berthing operations off Penarth, South Wales she collided with and sank the tug Iselgarth (R. & J.H. Rea) 3 crew were drowned. http://PartTimeJob.online/?user=395910

1967 Sold to Astroguarda Cia. Nav. for one voyage to the East then went to Kaohsiung for demolition.
